Past to Present

Over the years English has started to become less and less important. Why is this? Well I have come to believe that this is happening because of how efficient our technology is. Not that it’s a bad thing, no technology is great, but some people take it for granted and miss use it. English first started with the pen and paper, weird right. You would think ... hey didn’t it start with a book? Nope, sadly it didn’t! People had to write these books in order for others to read them right? Well that’s how I have come to know how the study of English started. The people of our past took this subject so seriously, way more than we do today and that is quite a shame. They were very intelligent people, and knew more than we do today. Before you get all defensive … think about it. How much would you really know about a subject without technology to help you every time you got stuck? I know I probably wouldn’t know as much as I do today. The people of today do not use their brains as much as the people from back then did; this is a fact that should be common. They had no technology to help them; in fact they were the ones who invented our easy lives and as such gave us an easy ticket to learn more. So then why is it that our willingness to learn is declining when they so clearly paved the way for our success?

When I was in high school I would sit there and listen to my teachers blab on and on about a subject, yeah it was boring but I stayed focused because I knew what I wanted for my future. But the only time I really got anything done were in Pre- AP and AP classes. Why? The students in my regular classes did not look forward to what they would do after graduating high school. They mainly wanted to just get through the day and go home. It would frustrate me when I would get a good grade on something and another student would complain about it. This mainly happened on my papers, I would write something with everything I got and turn it in. Having a difficult English teacher helped a lot, she prepared for everything I would need to know in English. I could appreciate the knowledge she was trying to pass down to me and continued to use it all through high school up until today. But her knowledge was passed down from others and so on up until these fine people of our past. I bet if they were here today they would be surprised at how far we have gone, upset for those who do not take advantage of their knowledge, and happy for the ones that use that knowledge and continue to grow from it.
Maybe learning isn’t all that fun but when you really think about it, where would we be without it?

  1. I agree with you that some people do not take learning serious. If we lived in a country that limited educatin, maybe it would be appreciated. These are the same people who will ask how if " tomorrow is spelled with one r or 2.

  2. I really don't understand why people don't take learning seriously. If we're a costume to the same thing everyday we'll get bored and go into depression. SO by learning something new we open our eyes to new experiences and a new world. I believe that we we made to learn, understand, and teach those that need to know what was done previous. We all have great minds and we should show that.
